Perfect weather and a host of beautiful cars, trucks
combined with a great cause made this a day to remember.
The Edelbrock Corporation, based in Torrance, Calif., has been known for high-quality, high-performance parts and accessories for muscle cars, hot rods and trucks. Vic's commitment to Made in the USA-quality hot rod hardware has accelerated the company into a successful performance factory producing parts for the garage enthusiast and the pro builder. In all of the Edelbrock family's success, though, they have never fallen short when it comes to giving back to the community and to those less fortunate.
This year marked the fourth annual Rev'ved Up 4 Kids charity auction and car show, held on April 25-26, to raise money for The Center for Learning Unlimited. Through the help of volunteers and generosity of many local individuals, the event kicked off Saturday evening with a silent auction in Vic's garage, which was filled with classic collectible muscle cars and hot rods. "Car and Driver Radio" host Alan Taylor was on the microphone auctioning off everything from vacations, PGA VIP tour passes donated by Tiger Woods, Lakers and Dodgers tickets. A ride on the Goodyear blimp and VIP passes to "Live with Regis and Kelly" also produced a few bucks for The Center for Learning Unlimited.
The auction kicked off a truly high-performance weekend, but the real fun echoed through roaring exhaust pipes, as muscle cars, hot rods, trucks and customs rolled into the Edelbrock Revved Up 4 Kidz annual car show. Brightly colored muscle cars, street rods and classic pickups filled the grounds at the Edelbrock museum, where enthusiasts could view Edelbrock's vast history of racing and performance. A total of 375 vehicles on display, 5,000 people walking the grounds and some top-notch vendors on display made for a fun-filled, action-packed day. A local band called The Sprockets played, while the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge got some gearhead youngsters spinning wrenches in front of a crowd to see how quickly they could assemble an engine. Loara High School of Anaheim, Calif., took the honors this year, with a fastest time of 82 minutes and 20 seconds. This achievement earned them a spot at the finals of this event at the 2009 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
At the close of the event, a total of $150,000 was raised to benefit The Center for Learning Unlimited, which helps assist children dealing with the challenges of autism. Plans are already in action for the fifth annual Rev'ved Up 4 Kids car show to be held on April 24-25, 2010. For more information, check out www.revvedup4kidz.com or www.edelbrock.com.
