The Goodguys 22nd Annual Northwest Nationals
We couldn’t tell if it was the weather or just the hot rides throughout the Puyallup Fair & Events Center, but the Goodguys 22nd Annual Northwest Nationals had everyone sweating.
With the close competition among over 2,000 hot rods custom and classics in attendance, there was plenty to see and do. Held in the middle of a rare heat wave to hit the Northwest (the temperature hit the mid 90s with brow-drenching humidity), on July 24-26, 2009, in Puyallup, Wash., the Goodguys proved once again that even when Mother Nature doesn’t want to cooperate, the show must go on.
There were a few new things going on at this event, such as the Swap Meet and Cars for Sale Corral areas. The Pinstripers Brush Bash showed off talents of all the pinstripers from the Northwest U.S. and Canada. One cool event associated with the Northwest Nationals was the Friday Night Drags held at the Pacific Raceways in nearby Kent, Wash.
As with many Goodguys events, there were special areas set up for other types of vehicles, like the Homebuilt Heaven, Ya Gotta Drive ’em, Trick Truck Corral, Goodguys Builder’s Choice, Suede & Chrome, Mighty Muscle (’55-’72) and Canadian Corral.
Going strong for 22 years, only the West Coast Nats, held in Pleasanton, Calif., for the past 23 years, and the All American Get Together, for the past 27, have run longer than the Goodguys Northwest Nats. With the huge turnout of both custom vehicles and the thousands of spectators crammed into the Puyallup Fair & Events Center, we’re sure there will be many years more of fun to come.
